Only flush the three Ps

Love your loo. It looks after you.

Pee. Poo. Paper. That's it. Everything else belongs in the bin โ€” and our sewers, streets and seas will thank you for it.

See the 3 Ps
The rule

Three things go down. Everything else goes in the bin.

If it isn't pee, poo or toilet paper โ€” bin it. Wet wipes labelled "flushable" don't break down like paper, and they're the number-one cause of sewer blockages in Malta.

Pee

Liquid gold for our wastewater system, not for the bin.

Poo

What goes in must come out. The sewer is built for it.

Paper

Toilet paper only. Wipes, even "flushable" ones, do not break down.

The science of a blockage

Meet the fatberg.

Fatbergs build up in pipes when wet wipes, condoms, tampons and pads cling to congealed fats and oils. Rather than break apart, they form one growing mass that can block โ€” and sometimes destroy โ€” entire sections of sewer.

The result: sewage backs up into homes, streets and ultimately the sea. Avoiding it is as simple as binning what doesn't belong in the toilet.

FOGs in the kitchen

Don't cause a stink by putting oil down your sink.

Fats, oils and grease โ€” FOGs โ€” congeal as they cool. Mixed with wet wipes from the bathroom, they're the perfect recipe for a fatberg. A few seconds of wiping a pan before washing it makes a measurable difference.
